Most people live with gut symptoms for years without understanding what's actually driving them.
Bloating after eating every meal.
Unpredictable bowel movements.
Food that used to feel fine suddenly causing problems.
Energy that crashes mid-afternoon.
These aren't random. They're messages — and they tend to follow patterns that point to a specific gut type.
I created the 'What's Your Poo Telling You?' quiz to give people a starting point to understanding the why.
A way to make sense of their gut symptoms without needing to book an appointment first.
Why Your Gut Symptoms Aren't Random: Why Do I Have Different Gut Symptoms Every Day?
The gut is complex - but symptoms tend to cluster. After years in clinical practice, I've noticed that most people fit broadly into one of four gut types.
Each has its own pattern of symptoms, its own triggers, and its own path to resolution and repair.
Understanding which type you are is the first step to making changes that actually work for you.

The Four Gut Types
The Unpredictable Gut
One day constipated, the next day, running to the bathroom. Nothing feels consistent. You might have been told you have IBS-mixed, or that stress is to blame. You may have tried every free IBS quiz under the sun.
There's usually more going on.
The Slow Gut
Constipation is your constant companion. You feel heavy and sluggish - not because of what you ate, but because things simply aren't moving.
The fix is usually less about food and more about supporting your gut's motility.
The Reactive Gut
Your gut responds to almost everything. Stress, certain foods, travel, hormones - you feel it all, right in your gut.
This type often has a strong gut-brain connection, and the healing approach needs to address both.
The Nearly-There Gut
You eat well and do the right things. But you're still get bloated after some healthy meals, and are still dealing with symptoms you can't explain.
Your gut needs fine-tuning, not an overhaul. You're closer than you think.
What is my Gut Type? Why Knowing Your Gut Type Matters
Generic gut health advice - drink more water, eat more fibre, take a probiotic - often misses the mark because different gut types and different types of IBS respond very differently to the same interventions.
What helps a Slow Gut can actually make a Reactive Gut worse. High-fibre foods that are brilliant for the Nearly-There Gut can be the exact thing triggering symptoms for the Unpredictable Gut.
This is why so many people try all the right things and still don't feel better. It's not that the advice is wrong - it's that it's not right for them.
Knowing your gut type gives you a filter. It means you can stop second-guessing every meal and start making targeted, informed decisions about your health.
